Estimate your pawn shop offer before you walk in

Pawn shops base offers on what an item resells for, how fast it sells, and its condition. Enter those three things and we will show you a realistic loan and sale offer range.

Use the price the same item in similar condition actually sold for, not the asking price. For gold jewelry, a shop will also weigh it against the live gold spot price.

Why not more?
The shop has to resell it at a profit and carry the risk while it sits on the shelf.
Estimates only. Every shop prices differently based on local demand, how fast the item sells, and how much similar inventory they already have. Firearms require the shop to hold an FFL and run required checks.

How do pawn shops decide what your item is worth?

A pawn shop is not guessing when it makes you an offer. Good shops check what the same item actually sold for recently on marketplaces like eBay, factor in condition, and think about how long it will sit before someone buys it. Then they work backwards: the offer has to leave room for the resale profit that keeps the shop open. That is why offers usually land between 25% and 60% of the used resale value.

How much will a pawn shop give me for gold?

Gold is the one category where the math is nearly universal. Shops weigh your jewelry, test the karat, and pay a percentage of the melt value at the live gold spot price, typically 55% to 75%. Stones, designer names, and condition can push a piece above melt value if it can be resold as jewelry rather than scrapped.

Should I pawn my item or sell it outright?

A pawn loan gets you cash while keeping ownership: repay the loan plus interest and the item comes back. Selling outright typically pays 10% to 20% more, but the item is gone. If there is any chance you want it back, pawn it. If not, sell it and take the higher offer.

How do I get the best offer at a pawn shop?

  • Bring proof of what it sells for: sold listings, not asking prices.
  • Clean the item and bring accessories, boxes, chargers, and papers.
  • For jewelry and watches, bring any certificates or appraisals.
  • Get offers from two or three shops. Pricing varies more than you would expect.

The best-run shops do not haggle from a gut number at all. They use software that recognizes the item, pulls real-time market data, and prices it consistently every time, which usually means fairer offers for you.
